Why Canada is More Attractive for Foreign Workers, Overtaking the U.S.

Are you looking for a job today?

According to a Boston Consulting Group (BCG) survey and The Network, Canada now leads as the most attractive destination for foreign workers, overtaking the United States.

The organization believes that the current situation we are experiencing with the Covid-19 pandemic is a considerable factor wherein many people became unemployed, resulting in demand work but with limited vacancies and layoffs here and there. But the irony is more people showed less interest in working overseas. The study was performed from October to December 2020.

Another component to be considered is how the countries handled the global pandemic. For instance, New Zealand, Singapore, Canada, Australia and Japan did relatively well in handling health protocols and guidelines resulting in lower cases of Covid patients in their countries. Moreover, European territories went down two ranks each on their spots while Italy and Spain did not make it to the list. International travel has more strict guidelines. Cities that are hit less by coronavirus are becoming in demand by foreign workers such as Singapore, Tokyo, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. On the other hand, Barcelona, Rome and New York are not so favourable as of now.

Canada was outstanding on the respondents’ rankings with young professionals and individuals with Master’s degrees and doctorates.

Furthermore, imposed stricter immigration policies during the Trump reign made people’s interest low in the States.

Persistent racism and social police injustices are never-ending, too; in the U.S., hate crime was recorded the highest in 2020 in more than a decade, summing all victims by race and ethnicity.

If we disregard political, social, and health factors and all of the negative news in the U.S. They might still make it to the top of the survey. Canada is performing very well in handling the pandemic. Most of the respondents in the study are tech and digital workers who are willing to work remotely.

WORKING IN CANADA

With the unemployment rate rising everywhere, we look for better options where we can have benefits that will be advantageous for ourselves and our families. Outstanding quality education for children, impressive healthcare support and beautiful touristic attractions are all present in Canada.

Having Canadian remote work experience is a plus should you wish to apply for permanent residency. You can qualify for the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) or earn points through the Federal Skilled Worker Program – Express Entry. If you have advanced French language ability, the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is another option.
