A sum of 156 invitations was published by the province of Prince Edward Island through their Provincial Nominee Program. The draw date was last April 15 and the next one is predicted to still be by next month as Prince Edward Island conducts Expression of Interest draws only once a month on record.
Candidates from Express Entry, Labor Impact and Business Impact streams were issued invitations to apply for permanent residency in Prince Edward Island. Among the 156 candidates, 16 invitations were issued to Business Impact applicants with a minimum threshold of 75. While the remaining 140 are from Express Entry and Labor Impact candidates.
Prince Edward Island Provincial Nomination Program (PEI PNP) selects applicants through its own provincial regulations that are endorsed by the federal government. Basically, it is to meet their labour market demand which highly boosts their economy and workforce. This is not only proven in Prince Edward Island but also with other provinces and territories of Canada who has various criteria for each of their nomination programs.
Like everywhere, Immigration to Prince Edward Island has decreased since the previous year with an extensive impact from border closures and travel restrictions. Express Entry
Like other Express Entry categories in other provinces and territories, Prince Edward Island Provincial Nomination Program Express Entry applications are classified under three economic-class programs: Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program and Canadian Experience Class.
Applicants need to register an Expression of Interest (EOI) profile on the Canadian government website. Candidates are given a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score factoring age, educational background, work credentials and language ability in English and/or French. Once a candidate receives a provincial nomination, they will be awarded 600 additional points to the criteria and an Invitation to Apply for permanent residency.
Labor Impact
This stream is for foreign workers who are currently working or have a verified job offer in Prince Edward Island. It is sub-divided into three streams: Skilled Worker, Critical Worker and International Graduate. Similar to Express Entry, candidates under the labour impact stream is required to submit an Expression of Interest for a provincial nomination.
Business Impact
Candidates for the Business Impact stream has to meet the required minimum provincial score. Every draw, the score minimum varies. In the recent draw, invitations sent by Prince Edward Island under Business Impact were issued under the Work Permit category, where foreign entrepreneurs can own and manage a business in the province.
